Years after I had given birth myself I started to be really interested in the magic of the placenta. More and more women who came to see me for pregnancy massages were talking about the benefits of several customs around the placenta that were new to me at first. A whole new world opened up for me.
A few years ago I could no longer deny that the placenta was attracting me more than I had ever imagined. So I started reading about it. First book I read was by Jennifer L West called The Natural Healing Power of the Placenta. It described how women ingested their placenta through capsules and how they experienced beneficial support from doing so. I was intrigued. I read more! Robin Lim wrote an amazing book on the placenta, as well as Cornelia Enning. There was no turning back on the path that drew me to the next step in my practice.
A befriended colleague taught me how to prepare the placenta for ingestion and then a next passion was born. Later that same week in 2014 a first time mother request me to encapsulate her placenta and I've been working with lots of placentas since.
So, the placenta. Let me tell you a little about this amazing organ, that nourishes your baby during your pregnancy and is able to nourish YOU postpartum if you dare ;)

I see so many benefits for the baby when delayed cord clamping is practiced! Never underestimate the magic of the placenta, it can be your baby's life saver!
Ingesting your placenta: placentophagy
The most popular and well known way of ingesting the placenta is through encapsulation. The placenta can be prepared according the raw or the steamed method and both methods will wash, slice the (steamed) placenta and dry it for 8-12 hours, grind it and encapsulate the powder for a very potent postpartum supplement.
Specific benefits of placenta pills are that they may help to:
- increase general energy
- facilitate a quicker return to health after birth
- increase the production of breast milk
- decrease likelihood of baby blues and postpartum depression
- replenish iron and prevent postpartum anemia
- lends you a consistent flow of oxytocin (the bonding hormone)
